Tim lost his wife Abbie in a suspicious accident five years ago. He is a tech genius, and creates a robot that looks, sounds, and acts like his missing wife. Abbie, the robot, awakens to a world where she knows and remembers some things, but there are large gaps in her memories. She soon wants to know more about what happened to the real Abbie, and she starts to look into her disappearance.

Told with multiple points of view that are a little confusing. Mostly told from Abbie the robot’s viewpoint, but also includes an unknown narrator. This novel uses second-person POV, which I didn’t really enjoy.

The setting is Silicon Valley and centers around a man who runs a tech company and creates an AI robot. The man was infatuated with his wife, and after losing her, he creates the perfect wife… an AI robot. Kind of creepy. The story is about Abbie the robot and what she is, how she fits into society, and what happened to the real Abbie.

A combination of science fiction and psychological thriller. There is a fair amount of tech talk, but nothing too complicated. The characters are unreliable and make for an entertaining thriller. I was disappointed in the ending and how everything came together. I can handle some unanswered questions, but this story had more plot holes than I was comfortable with. Unsettling and unique.

A group of friends go on a girls’ weekend getaway. Two of the women are Lee and Grace – best friends who are keeping secrets from one another. At the end of the weekend, someone is dead.

Told with alternating points of view and timelines. The three points of view are Lee, Grace, and Noah. Lee is a single mother. She is protective of her autistic son Mason, and all her actions revolve around providing for him. Grace is Lee’s best friend, and also a single mother. Grace is keeping something from Lee that threatens their relationship. Noah is Mason’s tutor, who Lee has a crush on. Most of the novel takes place in the present time, but there are chapters from the past that fill in the blanks to explain current actions of the characters.

Because You’re Mine is a domestic thriller that is slow-building and captivating. Lee and Grace are both single mothers raising sons. They formed a friendship and have confided in one another over the years, but they have been keeping their darkest secrets hidden. Flawed and unreliable characters with intriguing backstories. A story with dark and unpredictable turns. Fantastic ending.

Because You’re Mine is Rea Frey’s second book, and I found it slightly better than Not Her Daughter. Both are good books though, and I recommend them to readers who enjoy a combination of women’s fiction and domestic suspense.

Caroline Stark is living the dream life. Well, until her husband shows up late to their housewarming party… and with another woman. As Caroline’s marriage falls apart, so does her fancy life. When Caroline meets a stranger on the beach, Aiden, they have a brief fling. It’s clear from the start that Aiden’s feelings are stronger for Caroline than hers for him.

A Stranger on the Beach is told with the alternating points of view of Caroline and Aiden. Caroline’s POV is first person, while Aiden’s is third person. It’s clear their stories don’t match, but which one is lying is not clear. An entertaining unreliable narrator psychological thriller.

A Stranger on the Beach is the second book I’ve read by Michele Campbell, and I enjoyed this one slightly more than She Was the Quiet One. For avid readers of domestic suspense, A Stranger on the Beach isn’t too hard to figure out. Still, it was a fun, fast-paced read. Suspenseful and exciting.

Two very different women. Both with secrets they want to keep hidden. Amy is happy with her ordinary life. When new neighbor Roux shows up at book club, and suggests the women play a variation on the game Never Have I Ever, Amy fears her secrets may be revealed.

Amy has worked to keep her past hidden. She has a secret that, if revealed, would upend everything she has. When Roux attempts to blackmail Amy, Amy isn’t going along with Roux’s plan. As Amy learns more about Roux, she finds out that Roux has secrets too. Deceptions and betrayals aplenty… with it being anybody’s guess who will come out on top.

Never Have I Ever is a combination of psychological thriller and women’s fiction. This book has one thing I love in domestic suspense novels – it takes place in idyllic suburbia. Amy and Roux are neighbors that get involved in a dark game of deceptions. The relationships with their families and other neighbors strengthens the story.

Never Have I Ever is a good book for readers who enjoy some drama with their suspense. Gripping, twisted, and clever.

Phoebe Miller spends her days at home alone. She’s noticed the same car parked on her street several times a week. Phoebe wonders if it is someone taking a break from their day or if someone is spying on her. When new neighbors move in across the street, Phoebe forgets about the woman in the car.

Told in two parts, Part 1 – Mrs. Miller and Part 2 – The Other Mrs. Miller. The first part is about Phoebe and her life. She is wealthy, lonely, and unhappily married. When new neighbors move in, she starts up a friendship with the mother and an affair with the son. The second part takes a turn, and is about the other Mrs. Miller.

I thoroughly enjoyed Part 1, but Part 2 was a let down. While the first part is realistic and somewhat dark, the second part is unbelievable and almost comical. It’s like reading two completely different stories.

Overall, The Other Mrs. Miller is an entertaining read. Good for fans of domestic thrillers that don’t mind suspending disbelief. Darkly humorous, twisty, and fun.

MY REVIEW

During a layover, Joshua meets Morgan. He feels an instant attraction to her, and alters his travel plans to follow her. Only, she doesn’t want to be followed. Joshua ends up in a whirlwind of a mystery.

Told with the alternating points of view of Joshua and Detective Kimberly Givens. Joshua doesn’t enjoy his work, has a (sort of) girlfriend, and he really hates flying, which he does a lot of. He seems like a decent guy who is not sure what he wants in life. When he meets Morgan, he is drawn to her, and thinks she feels the same about him. Turn out, she’s got some secrets and getting involved with her only leads to trouble for him. Detective Givens is working hard on a missing person case of a local business man. Eventually, Joshua and the detective cross paths.

A slow-building suspense. For avid readers of thrillers, this one may fall flat. I found the idea of a stranger getting so involved in the mystery a bit unbelievable, but it was entertaining to read. My biggest quibble is Joshua following Morgan. He should have backed off when Morgan told him to. He’s not doing either of them any favors by staying involved. One thing I really enjoyed was Joshua’s relationship with his father. It was great to see a good father-son relationship.
