Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Things That Make Me Pick Up a Book.
It seems I’m always finding new books to read. Listed below are some of the reasons I’ll add a book to my ever-growing reading list.
1. Written by a favorite author
There are plenty of books I pick up just because I’ve enjoyed others by the author. Some of my favorites are Rachel Caine, Karin Slaughter, Gillian Flynn, and Liana Moriarty.
2. Cover love
Yep. Guilty of this. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t.
3. Genre love
It’s great to find new books and authors in my favorite genres – mysteries and thrillers.
4. Keep hearing about it
If a book keeps popping up in my Goodreads and book blog feeds, I might pick it up. Even if it’s out of my genre comfort zone.
5. Part of a series I’m reading
Once I start a series, I want to finish it. My TBR is full of books that are parts of series I’ve already started.
6. Fits in with a reading challenge
This is one of the ways I broaden my reading. Some challenges are easy. Others require me to get a out of my comfort zone and try something new.
7. Recommended by someone with great taste
If I see someone raving about a book, and I know we tend to like the same books, then I’m likely to pick it up too.
8. Learn something new
I usually read for entertainment, but sometimes I pick up a book to learn something new.
9. A break from reality
It’s great to get lost in a creative world. Some of my favorite books fall in the fantasy and science fiction genres, and provide an entertaining break from reality.
10. A movie or tv show is based on it
If a book is made into a movie or tv show, I’ll usually read it before watching it. It’s true when they say the book is always better. Maybe not always, but usually.
