MY REVIEW

Daphne Templeton returns in Something Borrowed, Something Mewed, the fifth book in the Lucky Paws Petsitting mystery series by Bethany Blake. In this latest book, Daphne’s sister Piper is getting married. Their mother insists on hiring a wedding planner who plans an extravagant wedding. When the wedding planner is found strangled with a garter, Daphne sleuths to find the killer.

Something Borrowed, Something Mewed is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I’ve only read one other book in this series, but I do plan to go back and read the others. It’s a cute cozy mystery series that has a small town setting, fun characters, and plenty of animals. Daphne is accompanied by her basset hound, Socrates, on her adventures. For the cat lovers out there, Daphne also has a cat and her pet sitting job in this book is for a cat.

One of the characters in this book is named Dorinda, so I thought that was cool. Not the same spelling as my name, but close enough. What made it even better was Dorinda’s mother’s name was Beverly. That’s my mother’s name. Weird coincidence.

A cozy mystery with humor and romance. A fun series for fans of cozy mysteries, especially cozies involving pets. I look forward to reading more of this series.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Pawprints & Predicaments by Bethany Blake

BOOK BLURB

The Tail Waggin’ Winterfest is the highlight of the season in the famously pet-friendly Pocono Mountains town of Sylvan Creek. But despite attractions like an ice sculpture display, a dogsled race, and gourmet hot chocolate, Daphne Templeton finds herself annoyed by TV producer Lauren Savidge, who’s filming the festivities. She’s critical, controlling, and as chilly as the January air. Daphne would like to tell her to go jump in a lake—and as a matter of fact, that’s exactly what they’re both going to do . . .

It’s the first-ever polar bear plunge in Lake Wallapawakee, and Daphne and Lauren are among the eighty or so people who charge into the frigid water to raise funds for animals in need. Daphne makes it back to shore—with the help of a mysterious St. Bernard—but Lauren is dragged out stone cold dead. Now, with her trusty basset hound Socrates at her side, Daphne intends to assist Detective Jonathan Black in his investigation—whether he wants her to or not…

MY REVIEW

Daphne, and other locals in Sylvan Creek, are not too happy with Lauren, a TV producer. Lauren is working on a show that features the pet-friendly town, but she is harsh and controlling. At the Winterfest’s first-ever polar bear plunge, Lauren is killed. Amateur sleuth Daphne sets out to find who killed Lauren.

Pawprints & Predicaments is the third book in the Lucky Paws Petsitting Mystery series. I have not read the previous two books, but I enjoyed this book and will keep an eye out for others by Bethany Blake.

A cozy mystery for dog lovers. The mystery part was good and kept me interested. The characters and setting were delightful. Sylvan Creek is very pet-friendly, especially to dogs. Most characters have a dog in this everyone knows everyone, and their dog, town. As a nice bonus, recipes for pet treats are included in the back of the book.
