A magical character or book.

Circe by Madeline Miller. Mythology and magic in a beautifully written novel.

The Perfect Book to Read at Night.

The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson. A great collection of short stories. Easy to find a stopping place, but entertaining enough to not want to put it down.

A Book that Truly Shocked You.

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. A great psychological thriller that was just the right amount of dark and twisted.

The Devil
A Dark, Evil Character.

Paul Scott in Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. I was expecting something dark and twisted, but, wow.

Grim Reaper
A Character that Should Never Have Died.

Tris in Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Divergent is one of my favorite YA dystopian novels, and I really hated that ending.

A Book that Made You “Hungry” for More.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book introduced me to the world of YA dystopian novels, which is still one of my favorite genres to read.

A Character that You Would Protect at All Cost.

Conor in A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. This was such an emotional read, and I just wanted to protect Conor from all the sadness and anger in his life.

A Book that Sucked the Life Out of You.

The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner. This book was a challenge for me to get through, and I put off reading more by Faulkner for years afterward.

A Book that Still Haunts You.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy. This was a dark, but powerful apocalyptic novel.

A Book that Really Scared You.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman. I think this book was so disturbing because the evil is never really known.

A Character You Have a Bone to Pick With.

Clary Fray in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. I’m currently reading this series, and Clary has been getting on my nerves more than usual lately.

A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It’s my favorite book.

Creepy Doll
A Cover too Scary to Look At.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith. Zombies are creepy.
